Why you may need Janumet to control Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus ?

What JANUMET is used for

Janumet(Generic Name: SitagliptinMetformin) is prescribed as a powerful oral medicine to treat type 2 diabetes. Janumet is very useful to control high blood sugar if it is taken properly with exercise and proper diet plan. It may possibly be used with or without other medications to control type 2 diabetes mellitus, but your doctor is the best person to decide that.  There are mainly three key aspects that Janumet targets to lower blood glucose level – i) helping our pancreas to produce more insulin, ii) to decrease the amount of excess sugar that is produced by our liver, and iii) it helps our body to use insulin more efficiently that it makes. As a result, it is easier to control high blood sugar all the day even after meals, and it is very unlikely to cause any weight gain or causing hypoglycemia by itself

How JANUMET works

Janumet is a combination of two medications, Sitagliptin (as phosphate monohydrate), a class of medicines called DPP-4 inhibitors and Metformin hydrochloride, a class of medicines called biguanides. Sitagliptin increases the level of Incretins which are protein hormones that is very helpful to control blood sugar as it works by stimulating insulin secretion after eating. Incretins also plays a crucial role to decrease the amount of sugar that our liver makes. Metformin, on the other hand, works by helping to restore the proper response of our body to the insulin that our body produces naturally. Metformin is also useful in decreasing the amount of sugar that our liver produces.
It is very important to control high blood sugar as type 2 diabetes mellitus may cause several serious health hazards like Blindness, nerve problems, Diabetic Nephropathy, several issues with sexual functions, and loss of limbs etc. We can also greatly decrease the risk of heart attack or stroke if we can control diabetes properly.

How to take JANUMET

Janumet is available in tablet form and taken by mouth twice a day with meals or as directed by your doctor. Taking the medicine with food will reduce your chance of stomach upset. Drink plenty of water and other fluids while you are on this medication unless your doctor suggests any other fluid intake plan.
Determining the dosage depends upon various factors like the medical condition of the patient and the medicines he/she might be taking, response to treatment etc. Always inform your doctor and pharmacist about all the medicine and supplements you are taking weather by prescription or non-prescription, any known fact about any kind of allergies etc. If you are already taking any other medication for high blood sugar, please follow the advice of your doctor to continue or discontinue the same. Also, try to remember a particular time of the day so that you can take the medicine at the same time every day to get the most benefit of it.

Keep checking your blood glucose level at regular intervals and inform the same to your doctor so that your doctor can adjust the dose or change treatment accordingly.
